It’s hard to believe, but summer movie season is already here and Matthew Fox stars in one of the first action-packed blockbuster films of the year as Racer X, the mysterious racecar driver who will do anything to hide his identity in his fight against corruption. Although the “Lost” star grew up not knowing much about Speed Racer, he did know a lot about the Wachowski Brothers and was a huge fan. So when he was approached to play the character, his best friend, who became overly excited when he heard Fox was up for the role, helped make his decision to be part of the family friendly film.
ComingSoon.net talked to Fox about starring in the big screen adaptation:
ComingSoon.net: What attracted you to play Racer X?
Matthew Fox: The Wachowski Brothers, that was the first way into the project was meeting them and hearing their thoughts on what they wanted to try to accomplish in the movie, and one of the first things that they said was that they wanted to make a movie that their nieces and nephews could see, and they had never really done anything like that. And they wanted to make a family movie, and they really hit a chord with me. I have kids and I haven’t done anything that I would feel comfortable for them really watching. I went and did some research on the original source material, and I had definitely seen those images, I recognized those images, I recognized them, they were familiar to me but I don’t think I’d really seen an episode, so I went out and got a bunch of those and watched a bunch of episodes and got a feel for what made that series in the 1960s so catchy. And then the script, Larry and Andy wrote a script that I thought was just absolutely amazing, just all those elements. It was really the only project that I wanted to be… I was looking at a few things last spring, but the minute I met with Larry and Andy and started going down the Racer X route, and “Speed Racer,” I didn’t want to do anything else. And I pretty much said, “If I don’t get this role, I’m not going to work this hiatus.”

Next weekend Matthew Fox ditches his Lost island in Hawaii in favor of the futuristic world of Speed Racer. In Speed Racer, Fox plays Racer X, the older brother of the film’s star driver Speed — played by Emile Hirsch.
Fox became a household name following his time on the 1990s Fox drama Party Of Five and he admits to having a career slowdown upon that show’s close. Then, in 2004, Fox got the lead role in ABC’s hit drama Lost. Since then, he’s appeared in the movies We Are Marshall, Vantage Point, and now, Speed Racer. Fox told us he’s thrilled at the current state of his career:”It’s been incredibly rewarding. I’m really happy. And I feel very fortunate. I’ve always waited a long time and been very patient for this moment to sort of come. I always felt like this moment would come a little bit later for me when I had been through it a little bit and Lost was a really great sort of thing for me as an actor and created a lot of these opportunities outside of the show.”
Speed Racer opens nationwide wide May 9th. It costars Christina Ricci, John Goodman, and Academy Award winning actress Susan Sarandon. It was directed by the Wachowski brothers, the same two who brought us the Matrix films and V For Vendetta.
The movie Speed Racer is based on the Speed Racer cartoon of the mid-’70s.

Matthew Fox suffers from road rage. The ‘Speed Racer’ star admits he has a tendency to lose his temper and scream obscenities at fellow drivers when he is on the road. He said: “If someone cuts me up on the road I will scream at them. Usually something like, ‘Are you out of your f***ing mind?’. That’s a special of mine.
“My wife Margherita is from Venice in Italy. The joke in Italy is someone’s driving poorly on the road everyone goes, ‘Oh, it’s a Venetian.’ Because Venetians don’t drive cars, they drive boats. Of course, her being Venetian, she yells at everyone.” Matthew - who plays racing driver Racer X in the movie - also revealed he used to dream of getting behind the wheel of fast cars when he was younger.
He added: “A race car driver was one of the first things I wanted to be. I have always been into cars and driving fast and I had an opportunity to do some track driving recently. I’ve always wanted to track drive Porsches and I got to the other day. It was wicked!” ‘Speed Racer’, which also stars Christina Ricci, Emile Hirsch and Susan Sarandon, will hit cinemas next month.

Lead roles in top US dramas Lost and Party of Five have made Matthew Fox one of the most recognisable faces on international television.
He talks to Seven’s film editor Cole Smithey about his latest big screen roles in the seminal thriller Vantage Point and The Wachowski brothers’ Speed Racer
Practically anyone with a television is aware of Matthew Fox from the hugely successful series Lost, where he plays the plane crash survivor Jack Shepherd who shares a remote island with 47 other survivors. Commenting on the show’s international success, Fox is quoted as saying that “it’s sort of a show about the human species, not a show about anybody from any particular country or any nationality or any religious background”.

LOST star MATTHEW FOX has a new reason to drive carefully - he could lose his job if caught flouting the highway code. Four characters on the hit show have been axed after the actors portraying them were arrested by Hawaii police for unruly driving.
And now Fox, who plays plane crash survivor Jack Shephard, hits the road with caution - for fear of being fired from the programme. Fox says, “We’ve a running joke on the Lost set that anyone arrested for DUI (driving under the influence) gets killed off in the show. So I slow down now.”
DUI incidents have plagued the Lost cast in Hawaii - castmates Cynthia Watros and Michelle Rodriguez both pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in January 2006 and April 2007 respectively. Daniel Dae Kim, who stars as the programme’s Jin-Soo Kwon, was also arrested on the same charge last year (07). British actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje was also arrested for driving without a licence and disobeying a police officer.

DarkUFO posted the Official Season 4 Press Release at his site:
With only 48 original episodes left until the final episode airs in 2010, this season truly is the beginning of the end with the promise of rescue at hand. Jack has radioed a freighter stationed somewhere off the island. But when it’s disclosed that Charlie’s dying warning was that these people may not be who they say they are, the castaways are split as to what to do. Jack is convinced that the freighter people are there to rescue them, while Locke is not. A division occurs among the survivors. Who is on the freighter? What was the significance of the flash-forward showing Jack and Kate off the island at some point in the future? What will the consequences be when the characters once again encounter Michael, who seemingly escaped the island after murdering two of the survivors? These are some of the questions “Lost” will explore during the action-packed fourth season.
The band of friends, family, enemies and strangers must continue to work together against the cruel weather and harsh terrain if they want to stay alive. But as they have discovered during their 90-plus days on the island, danger and mystery loom behind every corner, and those they thought could be trusted may turn against them. Even heroes have secrets.
“Lost” stars Naveen Andrews as Sayid, Henry Ian Cusick as Desmond, Emilie de Ravin as Claire, Michael Emerson as Ben, Matthew Fox as Jack, Jorge Garcia as Hurley, Josh Holloway as Sawyer, Daniel Dae Kim as Jin, Yunjin Kim as Sun, Evangeline Lilly as Kate, Elizabeth Mitchell as Juliet, Terry O’Quinn as Locke and Harold Perrineau as Michael.
